Open the 12306 app and apply for an electronic temporary boarding pass. It’s super easy and takes just a few minutes.
- Prepare Your Belongings:
- Take off your coat, hat, and scarf, and put them in the bins provided. There will be separate bins for different things, so just follow the signs.
- Take out your laptop, tablet, and any other electronic devices from your bag and put them in a separate bin. This is important because they need to be scanned separately.
- Liquids like water, shampoo, and lotion need to be in a container that is 100ml or less, and you need to put them in a clear plastic bag. The bag should be small enough to fit in your hand.
- Go Through the Scanner: Walk through the metal detector, and if it goes off, don’t worry, the staff will just do a quick pat-down. Then you can pick up your belongings and proceed to the next step.
- Tips: If you have a lot of luggage, look for the “love channel”. It’s a wider security check lane, and it’s designed for people with a lot of bags or who have disabilities. It’s much easier to get through. Also, try to arrive at the station at least 70 minutes before your train departs. If it’s a holiday, arrive even earlier, because the stations can get really crowded.
Boarding: How to Get to Your Train and Board Smoothly
Once you pass the security check, you need to find your boarding gate:
- Find the Waiting Hall: Follow the signs to the waiting hall. It’s usually a big, open area with a lot of seats and electronic screens.
- Find Your Gate:
- Look at the electronic screens in the waiting hall. They will show your train number, departure time, and gate number. The screens are usually located at the ends of the hall, so you can see them from anywhere.
- You can also use the 12306 app to find your gate. It will show you the exact location of your gate, and you can even get directions to it.
- Wait for the Announcement: When your train is about to depart, the staff will announce your train number and gate number over the PA system. Listen carefully, and make sure you’re at the right gate.
- Board the Train:
- When the announcement is made, show your ticket and ID to the staff at the gate. They will check your information and let you through.
- When you get to the train, remember to follow the “first off, then on” rule. This means you need to let the people who are getting off the train get off first, and then you can board. Don’t push or crowd, and be patient.
